Bundesligasaison in Folge.

The defending champions come to town for the start of the 19th Bundesliga Season
The Eigner Angels Nördlingen will begin their 19th consecutive Bundesliga season this Sunday. To open the new campaign, the reigning German champions from Keltern will once again visit the Hermann-Keßler-Halle.
“It didn’t look too bad at all” – that probably sums up the mood around the Eigner Angels Nördlingen following last weekend. At the Ginger HPC Cup, the newly assembled Nördlingen team faced three of last season’s top teams and showed that the Angels could be a team to watch right from the start of the new season.
It was particularly the team’s development throughout the individual games that provided plenty of encouragement. In the semifinal against the Rutronik Stars Keltern, the Angels initially struggled with turnovers and failed to find their rhythm. However, as the game progressed, the newly formed squad settled in more and more, improved with every possession and at times had the reigning German champions seriously under pressure. Keltern, who were still without Werth and Kiss-Rusk at the tournament, showed some uncharacteristic weaknesses.
Those are precisely the areas the Angels will look to exploit on Sunday. The Stars from the Pforzheim area will return to Nördlingen just a few days later, this time for the opening game of the new DBBL season. The Angels want to take the lessons learned from the preseason tournament straight into the league opener. At the same time, the team’s new head coach is fully aware of the quality of the reigning champions and the importance of the smallest details: “The Ginger HPC Cup showed that the league is very evenly matched and that even a brief moment of inattention can be costly. 80 seconds of lost focus were enough to allow Keltern to pull away with a 0:10 run.”
The Stars are once again entering the season with an international roster as they pursue a third consecutive championship title. Alongside German national team player Alex Wilke, the Baden-based team features a mix of returning players and international newcomers. Eastern Europe is particularly well represented once again. Led by the coaching duo Tavic/Antic, the combination of experience and international talent is expected to bring the title back to Keltern.
Last weekend, Serbian player Jelena Mitrovic particularly stood out due to her physical presence. At 2.06 meters, the center certainly has the size to make an impact and will present the Nördlingen defense with a major challenge in the paint.
Coach Rozitis is well aware of the challenge awaiting his team, but sees no reason for the Angels to be intimidated. “Keltern are back-to-back champions for a reason. We will have to play our best basketball to win, but that’s exactly what we’re going to try to do! We’re not quite where we want to be in our development yet, but the same goes for the other teams. So, everything is still wide open on Sunday!”
The team led by Pauline Mayer and Bianca Helmig is complete, motivated and ready for the opening tip of the new season. After an intense preseason, the Angels now face their first major test for points in the race for the championship.
Anyone who does not want to miss this season-opening treat can look forward to the return of Bundesliga basketball to the Hermann-Keßler-Halle this Sunday, with tip-off at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available online at eigner-angels.de and at the box office. For those unable to attend in person, DBBL games will once again be available to watch for free via livestream on DYN Basketball’s YouTube channel throughout the season.
