SPLITTER #8

Mixed were the successes of the former and current Einger Angels – players.
While the ex-Angels Luisa Geiselsöder and Levke Brodersen could celebrate a victory against North Macedonia last Thursday (73:41, halftime 26:30), the Germans lost against Belgium last Sunday clearly with 84:55 (halftime 32:32). Devastating here the quota from close range: only 37% hit rate of the Germans are 61% of the Belgians, after all at the last European Championships in France and Spain third. Against North Macedonia, on the other hand, Luisa Geiselsöder’s team managed the feat of holding their opponents to just four points in the third quarter and seven in the final quarter.

The current Angels Elina Koskimies and Anissa Pounds were unable to secure a victory for Finland. While there was an unnecessary 59:69 defeat against Lithuania according to Koskimies, the narrow 71:77 defeat against a strongly physical Ukrainian team around an outstanding Alina Iagupova (32 points) was a moral success, but also a lost game. By comparison, Geiselsöder, who is now playing in France, scored an average of eleven points in the two European Championship qualifying games.
While the German national team is now third in its Group A behind Bosnia-Herzegovina and Belgium with one win, the Finns are winless in Group B in fourth and last place. 38 teams are taking part in the qualifiers in ten groups. 14 tickets are reserved for the ten group winners and four best group runners-up. Serbia is the defending champion. The final round will be played in Israel and Slovenia in 2023.

Finnish Angels duo Elina Koskimies/Anissa Pounds will have looked around in wonderment on Wednesday night when they returned to the Noerdlingen team training session. For the first time since the third practice session in late August, all of the Eigner Angels were actually available to Coach Imreh. Although the injured Meg Wilson and Mariam Hasle-Lagemann could not yet go into full contact and call up 100% performance, but just the fact to have all the ladies on board again made for good spirits in the Angels squad. Now there is even hope to be allowed to welcome all Angels officially for the first time in own hall on the coming 8th play day with the home play against the table third TK Hanover. Tickets for this possible premiere are available online in the ticket store at eigner-angels.de or in the DIADA outlet store in Deininger Straße. Admission is, as agreed with the city of Noerdlingen, on Sunday only with 2G and masks mandatory, even at the seats.

Head coach Ajtony Imreh does not share the burgeoning expectations. Meg Wilson broke off the Tuesday training after 60min, although the Hungarian hopes for the further training sessions with the US girl. Imreh also sees difficulties especially in the defensive position with his second permanent injury victim, Mariam Hasle-Lagemann. „Since the defensive movements are completely different than in the offense, I am skeptical about using Mariam. Both players are not 100% fit, but we are on a good way, also thanks to the physiotherapeutic and medical care. Nevertheless, I hope for short appearances from both of them. We need them urgently.“ Who knows the coach and the team knows that there is only the system „attack“ on Sunday.
